Our Privacy Policy

The Global Association of One Percenters (GAOP), referred to as the Organization. understand how valuable privacy is to our members and site visitors. This privacy policy explains how information is collected through engagement interactions with the organizations and individuals during the normal course of business, how the organization uses personal information, and how you can make your privacy preferences known.

This policy represents the privacy policy as stated online (https://www.gaop.org/privacy-policy) and in paper form.

POLICY AND PROCEDURES

The organization collects information from customers when registering through online services, placing an order, subscribing to newsletters and services, joining, or completing and submitting web forms. The organization requires all its employees and contractors to respect users’ privacy and protect personally identifiable information, regardless of the form and system in which it is kept.

Accessing Content

Users can access the organization’s website and browse all content, except that designated as “members-only,” without disclosing personal information.

When ordering, signing up, or registering, as appropriate, information is requested such as name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and credit card information. Please note: it is perfectly acceptable and recommended to use your rider name. Please see our Online safety for one percenters post here. All our payments are managed via Stripe or PayPal, and they may require you to use the name on your card. Given the excessive profiling our members are subject to and a desire not to be dragged into that, you will only be asked for essential information. Users should not be encouraged to submit sensitive, personally identifiable information, such as social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or medical information, through online forms or in user profiles used in conjunction with the organization-provided services.

Generic, Internet-User Information may Also be Obtained by, But Not Limited to, The Following Methods:

  • Internet protocol address of the individual computer (or proxy server) making the request
  • Type of internet browser or computer operating system being used
  • Date and time of website access
  • Web pages visited on the organization’s website
  • Internet address of the website visited before the Organization’s site

To access members-only content, users must first be a GAOP member. GAOP members must provide their GAOP number, postal code, and e-mail address to create a username and password, which is then used to access content in the Members Area.

Information Collected by the Organisation May be used in Any of the Following Ways, During its Course of Business:

  • To personalize the user’s experience
  • To help better respond to individual user needs
  • To improve the Organization’s websites and systems
  • To improve customer service
  • To process transactions and orders
  • To administer a contest, promotion, survey, or other online feature
  • To send periodic emails regarding the benefits or products of the GAOP.
  • To share or sell information with third parties for marketing or other purposes, with or without consent
  • To comply with all laws
  • To collect and share information in collaboration with the organization’s partners and promoters, whereby the advancement of the organization’s mission may provide impact

Use of Personal Information

Organizations have implemented a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of personal information, such as but not limited to:

  • Usage of secure servers and authentication gateways
  • All supplied sensitive/credit card information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL), HTTPS encryption, and firewall technology, and then encrypted through payment gateway providers only to be accessible by those authorized with special access rights to such systems, and who are required to keep the information confidential. After a transaction, private information (credit cards, social security numbers, financials, etc.) are not stored on organization-owned servers.
  • Personal information will be retained for as long as the organizations need it to provide services to users, and/or as long as may be legally required by Tax regulations. Users may request the deletion of personal information from organization services, with the realization that personal information may be retained, in order to comply with the law, protect rights, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements.
  • Information submitted or shared through online services and communications may be transferred to countries other than where a user lives, such as servers located in the United Kingdom. The organization’s websites are in the United Kingdom, and the Organization collects, stores, and processes personal information in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom may not offer a level of privacy protection for a user’s personal information as great as is offered in the country in which a user lives.
  • Cookies are small files that a site or service provider transfers to a computer’s hard drive through a web browser (if the user allows) that enable the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize browser activity, capture and share specific information between systems, record votes for online polls, and track membership sales from affiliates.
  • Among use cases included in the organization’s systems, cookies are used to remember and process identity and account status information between systems, keep information secure, and compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interactions so that the user experience continues to improve and keep pace with evolving technologies and user experiences.

It is understood that users have their own ability (client-side) to disable or be notified about cookie utilization, and that turning cookie usage off will cause some online services to not function properly or as expected. Doing so, however, will prohibit users from accessing certain features of the site, including content in the Members-only Area.

Third-Party Advertising and Products

The organization may include or offer third-party products through its website and online communications. These third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. Therefore, the organization has no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Additionally, the organization seeks to protect the integrity of its online services and welcome user experience feedback.

The information collected is anonymous, and the organization uses this information internally to deliver the most effective content to users. Information from the cookies is used to gauge page popularity, analyze traffic patterns on sites, and guide the development of other improvements to the website. The organization does not require the acceptance of cookies; however, some functionality on the site, products, or service check-out process, and products and services may be disabled if users decline to accept cookies. Users can set the browser to notify them when a cookie is received, giving them the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. Users may also change cookie settings through preferences options in products and/or services, where applicable.

The organization never gives away information about users. If users choose to e-mail the organization and provide personally identifiable information, the organization will use this information only to respond to the inquiry. The organizations will not sell, rent, or otherwise disclose that information to third parties unless such disclosure is necessary for the purposes outlined in this Policy, by law, or a policy or notice contained or associated with a specific GAOP product or service.

The organization uses analytics data to opt out of Google Analytics; visit the Google Analytics opt-out page. Google has additional information available about their Remarketing Privacy Guidelines, Policies, and Restrictions.

Children’s Online Privacy

In the collection of information, the organization complies with the requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), a U.S. law designed to protect the online privacy of children under the age of 13. The organization realizes that children may visit and use the organization’s website and services. Therefore, the organization encourages parents, guardians, and teachers to monitor children’s use of the internet while using and browsing the organization’s site.

Children should always get permission from their parents before sending any personal information about themselves over the internet to the organization’s site. The organization will obtain parental consent before asking for personal information for children under the age of 13, unless the request for information falls within an exception that would be permitted under COPPA.

Parents may contact the organization to review, update, or delete any of their children’s personal information that the organization may have collected by emailing dataprotection@gaop.org or writing to 76 Longview Road, Swansea, UK SA6 7HP

Communication and Opting Out

It is understood that by using and accessing the organization’s online or computing services, users give their consent to this privacy policy.

Users can instruct the organization if users do not want to receive information and offers from the GAOP and its affiliates, other organizations, or both, by emailing date-protection@gaop.org or writing to 76 Longview Road, Swansea, UK SA6 &HP.

The organization does not send unsolicited e-mails. If you have elected to receive an e-mail newsletter and do not wish to continue receiving it, simply unsubscribe using the instructions provided in the e-mail.

Users can update their GAOP membership information online (users will need their GAOP membership number and postal code). Users can also access and update information by emailing membershipservices@gaop.org or writing to 76 Longview Road, Swansea, UK SA6 7HP.

FUTURE CHANGES AND DEFINITIONS

From time to time, the organization may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in this privacy policy. If the organization’s information practices change in the future, this privacy policy will be updated.

Browser. A program that allows a user to find, view, hear, and interact with material on the World Wide Web. Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Microsoft Edge are examples of popular browsers.

Cookies. Small text files that sites place in a user’s computer to help the browser remember specific information. The GAOP’s site uses cookies to record whether the users have voted in any online polls and to verify that a user is signed into the members-only area.

IP Address. A unique number that specifically identifies each computer or device connected to the Internet. Depending on how the device is connected to the internet, it can either be a fixed set of numbers or it can change each time it connects to a network or internet service provider.

SSL. Secured Sockets Layer is a protocol that transmits user communications over the Internet in an encrypted form. SSL ensures that the information is sent, unchanged, only to the server the user intended to send it to.
